These 10 films are included in their entirety on the B disc of the DVD, a
running time of over 3 hours. Of the hundreds of films we screened,
these were some of the most interesting, and I'm happy to finally be able
to make them available. The excerpts here are 3 to 5 minutes long.
AS BOYS GROW
AS BOYS GROW was the only sex-ed film we found (pre 1970) that
spoke directly about physical details. It was produced under the
belief that accurate information helps a teenager evolve through
adolescence by providing reassuring explanations for real life
experiences.
MOLLY GROWS UP
MOLLY GROWS UP was the only film we found that speaks directly of
periods and how a girl should behave while having her period. I
spoke with women who saw the film in school, and they said they
began referring to their periods as their "Molly" ("Did you get
your Molly yet?")
SOCIAL SEX ATTITUDES IN ADOLESCENCE
SOCIAL SEX ATTITUDES IN ADOLESCENCE seems to be designed to help
parents understand their kids, though our impression is that it
was produced for a teenage audience. It promotes communication
and understanding, tracing a boy and a girl through various
dating scenarios up until they get together and eventually marry.
IN DEFENSE OF A NATION
IN DEFENSE OF A NATION was produced by the US Army during the
late 30's. I presents shocking details of VD rates from 1820 to
1940 and ends up denouncing prostitution with fascinating
portrayals of a 30's view of prostitutes and pimps.
EASY TO GET
EASY TO GET is a result of the segregation of soldiers during
World War 2. The Army produced white films for white soldiers
and black films for black soldiers. This clip has amazing acting
and dancing. The only white character is the doctor who tells
the soldiers they have VD.
KNOW FOR SURE
KNOW FOR SURE is the white equivalent of EASY TO GET. It
includes a demonstration of how to put on a rubber. The only
black character is the woman who greets the athletes at the whore
house.
DANCE LITTLE CHILDREN
DANCE LITTLE CHILDREN was produced by the Kansas State Board of
Health in 1961. A rich kid shares VD with an innocent girl from
a poor family. A public health official questions kids one by
one about exactly who they had sex with and then tracks them down
one by one.
THE INNOCENT PARTY
THE INNOCENT PARTY produced by the Kansas State Board of Health
in 1959. A one night with a city slut stand results in a sweet
fiance getting VD.
PERVERSION FOR PROFIT
PERVERSION FOR PROFIT was produced by the Citizens for Decent
Literature, a Christian group devoted to stamping out girly
magazines, nudist magazines, sex tinged adventure magazines, not
to mention erotic literature.
PRINTED POISON
PRINTED POISON, also produced by Citizens for Decent Literature,
is a film noir equivalent of PERVERSION FOR PROFIT. The montage
of offending magazines is a classic.
